10 year old rides the Great Ocean road

Feb 9 2019

At just 10 years old, Williamstown’s Xander Schmitz is proving that age is no barrier to making a difference. Next month, Xander will be the youngest cyclist participating in the three-day 25000spins Great Ocean Road Challenge, a grueling ride from Geelong to Warrnambool, all to raise funds for children living in poverty.

Driven by a big heart and an even bigger determination, Xander says he’s combining his passion for cycling with his desire to help others. “I love sports and am very good at riding,” he shares. “This is a very big ride for me. The first two days are over 120 kilometers each, with lots of hills. So I really have to be ready for it.”

The Great Ocean Road Challenge is no small feat, even for seasoned cyclists, but Xander is training hard and staying focused on his goal. His inspiring effort reminds us all that no matter how young or old, anyone can make a meaningful impact.
